Embed Our Calculators

Home Improve Guide offers free embeddable versions of two of its calculators for other websites: the Concrete Calculator and the Insulation Calculator. Each widget is the same tool that runs on its page on this site, with the same formulas, the same national price ranges and the same 3 month price review, placed in a compact frame that fits inside an article, a product page or a project planner. Each section below shows a working preview of the widget, so the tool can be tried before any code is copied, followed by the code that places it on another site.

Concrete Calculator widget

The concrete widget runs the tool from the Concrete Calculator page. It covers all seven pour shapes: slab, sidewalk, footing, round column, square column, steps and curb and gutter. Results list the pour volume with and without the waste allowance, the number of 80, 60 and 40 lb bags, and Low, Typical and High prices for both ready mix and bags, and the waste and region menus work exactly as they do on the full page.

Pasting this code into any page that accepts HTML places the concrete widget at full width. Its fixed height of 1900 pixels shows the whole form and result on a phone screen without scrolling inside the frame.

<iframe src="https://homeimproveguide.com/embed/concrete-calculator/" title="Concrete calculator" width="100%" height="1900" style="width:100%;border:0" loading="lazy" allow="clipboard-write"></iframe>

Insulation Calculator widget

The insulation widget runs the tool from the Insulation Calculator page. It sizes an attic or wall from its length and width, then counts bags of blown fiberglass at R30, R38 or R49 using the Owens Corning AttiCat coverage chart, or batt and roll packages at R13 through R49 with an editable coverage figure for each package, since batt sizes differ between brands. The result shows the bag or package count, the area to insulate, the R value and a Low, Typical and High installed price, with the same region menu as the full page. Energy programs, utilities, extension services and weatherization groups can use it to give readers a working number next to their own advice.

This code places the insulation widget at full width. Its fixed height of 1640 pixels fits its longest result, the batts and rolls view, on a phone screen.

Matching the frame to its content

Sites that prefer each frame to match its content height exactly can add this optional snippet once per page, anywhere after the frames. It works for both widgets on the same page, and each calculator works the same without it.

<script>window.addEventListener("message",function(e){if(e.origin!=="https://homeimproveguide.com"||!e.data||e.data.type!=="hig-embed-height")return;var f=document.querySelectorAll("iframe[src^='https://homeimproveguide.com/embed/']");for(var i=0;i<f.length;i++)if(f[i].contentWindow===e.source)f[i].style.height=e.data.height+"px";});</script>

Who the widgets suit

  • Home improvement and DIY blogs that write about patios, sheds, attics and weekend projects.
  • Contractors, landscapers and insulation installers who want a quick quantity check on a service page.
  • Building supply yards and hardware stores that sell bagged concrete, loose fill or batts.
  • Energy cooperatives, utilities and home efficiency programs with pages on attic upgrades.
  • Real estate, property management and homeowner association sites with project planning sections.

The widgets load only files from homeimproveguide.com, use system fonts and carry no advertising. They are built to stay light, so they add little to the load time of the page that hosts them.

Terms

  • The widgets are free to use on personal, commercial and nonprofit sites.
  • No account, sign up or key is needed.
  • A small credit line sits under each calculator. Keeping it is appreciated but not required, and the calculator works in full either way.
  • A widget may be resized, placed anywhere on a page or removed at any time.
  • Results are planning estimates, as on the main site, and the terms of use and disclaimer apply to them.

How the numbers are built

Both widgets run the same five step method as every other estimate on the site. Each measures the quantity, prices it at a national baseline, adjusts for the chosen product or pour type, applies the chosen region and closes with the costs the figure does not cover. Bag yields and coverage figures come from manufacturer data sheets, and prices are dated national ranges that update on the site without any change to the embed code. The methodology page sets out every formula, source and rounding rule.

Other calculators

The concrete and insulation tools are the first calculators offered for embedding. Requests for others in the set, such as the paver, drywall or roof pitch calculators, can be sent through the contact page or to contact@homeimproveguide.com, and those requests help decide which tool is offered next.
